Bouvard and Pécuchet
Bouvard and Pécuchet, two Parisian copyists, embark on a frantic quest for universal knowledge. After settling in Normandy, they try their hand at agriculture, chemistry, and medicine, one after another, with an enthusiasm that invariably descends into disaster. Through this epic of stupidity and systematic failure, Flaubert delivers a scathing satire on human pretension and the instability of the sciences, ironically depicting the clash between theory and reality.
