The Love-Tiff
Between secret marriages and daring disguises, this comedy by Molière explores the torments of pride and jealousy. Éraste and Lucile, swept up in a fit of “spite,” feign hatred for one another even as their passion remains intact. Carried by the genius of the valet Mascarille and a plot of mistaken identities inherited from the Italian tradition, the play depicts with finesse the fragility of trust and the social pressures surrounding inheritance, all written in sparkling language.
