Two Readers, One Book
Books published in both formats can be read in the SmartBook web reader or the EPUB reader. Switching does not lose your place: the exact position and the passage you were on are carried across, in either direction, including when you move between the website, the mobile app, and the desktop app.
How to Switch
- From the reader toolbar, use the eBook or web-reader icon.
- Or set a default under Profile → Reading → Preferred reader, so books open the way you like without asking.
Why You Might Prefer One or the Other
SmartBook web reader keeps interactive features: inline footnotes, section audio, styled layouts, and anything a publisher has built into the book. EPUB reader gives paginated book-like pages, page-turn animation, two-page spreads, sepia and gray themes, and full-screen reading.
Getting Back to Your Place
- Reopening a book offers to resume from your last position.
- The Continue Reading shelf on your dashboard lists every book in progress.
- Recent Bookmarks gathers your latest saved positions across all books.
- A progress bar shows the current chapter and the percentage read.
If the Choice Is Missing
The switch only appears for books that really offer both formats. It is hidden on free previews, on books without an EPUB, and on plans that do not include the EPUB reader.
