Biography:

Amin Salama (1921–1998) was a prominent Egyptian translator, scholar, and writer who devoted his life to bridging classic Western literature and Arab readers. He is celebrated for translating foundational Greek and Roman epics and drama into Arabic, making these ancient masterpieces accessible to the Arab world.

Born in Egypt, Salama graduated from the Department of Classics at Cairo University in 1943 and later earned his Master's degree in 1947. His deep academic training in ancient Greek and Latin shaped his professional career, leading him to work as a university professor and a prolific writer who blended classical themes with modern Arabic prose.

Throughout his career, Salama authored several original novels and historical works, alongside his monumental translations of the works of Homer, Sophocles, and Euripides. His writings are distinguished by their historical depth, emotional resonance, and his unique ability to adapt classic mythological tales into engaging contemporary literature.
