Helen Adams Keller (1880) is an American author, educator, and activist who is celebrated worldwide as a pioneering symbol of perseverance. Having lost both her sight and hearing at nineteen months old due to an illness, she overcame these profound physical barriers with the lifelong assistance of her teacher Anne Sullivan. She became the first deaf-blind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree, graduating from Radcliffe College in 1904.

Following her formal education, Keller dedicated her life to writing, lecturing, and advocating for people with disabilities. She joined the Socialist Party in 1909 and actively campaigned for women's suffrage, labor rights, and pacifism, while also helping establish the American Foundation for the Blind in 1923. Her extensive literary output includes numerous essays and autobiographical works that detail her unique sensory perception of the world and her deep commitment to social justice.
