James Matthew Barrie (1860–1937) was a Scottish novelist and playwright whose enduring legacy is inextricably linked to the boy who wouldn't grow up. After moving to London to pursue his literary ambitions, Barrie achieved considerable early success with his plays and stories depicting Scottish country life. His creative trajectory shifted permanently after striking up a close friendship with the Llewelyn Davies family. The imaginative games he played with the five Davies boys directly inspired the mythical world of Neverland, Captain Hook, and Tinker Bell.
