C. S. Forester (b. 1899) was an English novelist who became a master of historical fiction and naval adventure. He is best known for creating the iconic fictional naval officer Horatio Hornblower, whose exploits during the Napoleonic Wars captured the imaginations of readers worldwide.

Born Cecil Louis Troughton Smith in Cairo, Egypt, Forester initially studied medicine before turning his full attention to writing in the 1920s.
