George Tannous

1879 - 1926

George Tannous (1880–1926) was a prominent Egyptian writer and journalist who made notable contributions to the field of daily journalism and literary magazines in Egypt. His editorial career, literary writings, and documentation of adventures are considered distinguishing landmarks of his intellectual and cultural legacy.

Tannous was born in the city of Alexandria in 1880, where he was educated in its schools and acquired his early knowledge. Journalism and the world of writing captivated him from his early youth, and he took his first professional steps working as a correspondent for "Al-Muqattam Newspaper" in Alexandria, providing news coverage and articles.

Tannous later moved to Cairo to expand his media and literary activities. He worked for several daily newspapers and contributed to editing a number of literary magazines, continuing his writing and editorial efforts until he ultimately joined the editorial staff of "Al-Ahram Newspaper." On the literary front, Tannous was known for composing a few distinguished poems and authoring several important books, the most prominent and significant of which was his chronicling of the adventures of the rogue adventurer Hafiz Najib across multiple books. Tannous passed away in Cairo in 1926.
