Faraj Jubran was a prominent Egyptian writer, journalist, and translator, renowned for his distinguished travel literature and his literary and political translations during the first half of the twentieth century. He was known for his immense passion for travel and for documenting the anecdotes and oddities of different peoples. Throughout his career, he made diverse journalistic and literary contributions that enriched the Arab cultural scene.
Jubran worked as an official at the Court of Accounts in Cairo. Because the nature of his government position sometimes prevented him from signing under his real name, he used the pseudonym "Fajr," derived from the letters of his name. On the journalistic front, he co-founded and published Al-Shu'la magazine in collaboration with Muhammad Ali Hammad, and was also a member of the editorial staff of the famous magazine Akher Sa'a from its early days.
His output varied between political and historical books; following World War II, he focused on travel literature, alongside translating numerous novels and short stories from French. In 1960, Faraj Jubran met his end in a mysterious aviation accident when the plane he was aboard disappeared over the Mediterranean Sea after taking off from Italy bound for Cairo, leaving no trace of the aircraft or its passengers.
