What is AI Chat?
AI Chat lets you have a conversation about the book you are reading. Powered by Google Gemini, the assistant uses the actual content of the book to answer your questions accurately, drawing on the most relevant passages rather than general knowledge.
What You Can Do
- Ask questions about the plot, characters, or themes.
- Request a summary of a chapter or section.
- Explore deeper meanings or historical context.
- Ask for comparisons between characters or ideas.
- Find a passage by describing it — the assistant searches across chapters and points you to the exact text.
How to Use It
Click the chat icon in the reader toolbar to open the AI Chat panel. Type your question and press Enter.
Conversation Controls
- History — Past conversations are saved and sync across your devices. Open the history view to resume, rename, or delete a session.
- Spoiler protection — On by default. The assistant will not reveal what happens later in a book than the chapter you are currently reading. Toggle it in the chat menu, or set your account-wide preference in Profile.
- Cross-book scope — Scholar plans can widen a conversation from one book to a whole genre or your entire library.
- Share — Publish a conversation as a link anyone can read, without needing an account.
- Create — From the chat, ask for an illustrated scene, a storybook, a slide presentation, or a shareable quote card.
Availability
AI Chat requires a Reader Pro or Scholar plan, or a book you purchased outright. Publishers may also enable it on selected titles. The Free plan includes AI Clarify but not AI Chat.
