Inside Egypt: The Land of the Pharaohs on the Brink of Revolution

John R. Bradley

John R. Bradley explores Egyptian society to reveal the unrest preceding the January Revolution. Through accounts of systemic corruption, he portrays a police state that crushed its citizens' dignity. The book examines the erosion of the middle class, the rise of political Islam, and the marginalization of minorities, warning of an inevitable explosion. It is a bold work documenting the moments before the fall of the Mubarak regime and the transformation of Egypt.

John R. Bradley

1970 - 2020

John R. Bradley (born 1970) is a British journalist, author, and Middle East specialist. He is widely known for his deep field reporting and books that accurately predicted major political turmoil in the Arab world, particularly the Egyptian revolution.

Bradley grew up in the United Kingdom and was educated in Middle Eastern studies, graduating with a degree in Arabic and Persian from the University of Exeter before completing his postgraduate studies at the University of Oxford. His career as a journalist led him to the heart of the Arab world, where he worked as an editor and correspondent in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Syria. Thanks to his fluency in the Egyptian dialect, he spent years living among the locals, gaining unique insights into the region's social and political undercurrents that are often overlooked by mainstream Western media.

His reporting for major newspapers and magazines such as the Daily Mail, The Spectator, and The Economist established his position as a critical voice in Middle Eastern affairs. Bradley's most famous achievement remains his analysis of pre-2011 Egypt, in which he detailed the systemic corruption, police brutality, and economic despair that ultimately led to the outbreak of the Arab Spring. Through his books, he continues to challenge conventional Western narratives regarding democratization and political Islam in the region.
