1 bookBiography
Walt Disney (1901-1966) was an American entrepreneur, animator, and film producer who revolutionized the entertainment industry. He is best known for co-founding The Walt Disney Company and creating iconic characters such as Mickey Mouse, establishing a global legacy in animation and theme park design.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, Disney moved to Kansas City where he began his career in commercial art and animation. In 1923, he relocated to Hollywood and founded the Disney Brothers Studio with his brother Roy. His breakthrough came with the creation of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, but after losing the rights to that character, he developed Mickey Mouse. The release of Steamboat Willie in 1928 marked the first synchronized sound cartoon, propelling Disney to international fame and setting a new standard for the medium.
Disney continued to innovate by producing Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937, the first full-length cel-animated feature film in motion picture history. This success allowed him to expand into television and live-action films. In 1955, he opened Disneyland in Anaheim, California, realizing his vision of a clean, family-friendly amusement park. His work earned him numerous Academy Awards, including a special award for Snow White, and he remains a pivotal figure in cultural history for transforming animation into a respected art form and major commercial enterprise.
